About Nepali language: Nepali or Nepalese is an Indo-Aryan language. It is the official language of Nepal and is also spoken in India, Bhutan, Myanmar and by worldwide Nepalese diaspora. Nepali is spoken in the Indian state of Sikkim, West Bengal (Darjeeling district) as well as Assam. Historically, the language was first called the Khas language, then Gorkhali or Gurkhali (language of the Gorkha Kingdom) before the term Nepali was taken from Nepal Bhasa. Other names include Parbatiya ("mountain language", identified with the Parbatiya people of Nepal) and Lhotshammikha (the "southern language" of the Lhotshampa people of Bhutan).
